What is Pipe Relining

Pipe relining is the process of adding a new interior lining to a damaged or cracked pipe to restore the pipe extending its longevity and reducing blockages. The new lining is made up of a mesh tube impregnated with an epoxy resin. The mesh tube adds structure and form and the epoxy resin bonds and sets the lining to create a new lining on the pipe that is sometimes stronger than the existing pipe. The benefit of pipe relining is that it lets a plumber repair a pipe without having to dig up the pipe to replace a section. This makes what could have been a multi-day job into a half-day or day job with the longest wait being curing time. It also minimises if not completely removes the need for a plumber to dig up your backyard or under your home to reach the blockage. This greatly reduces the cost and time needed for a pipe repair.

Blocked Drains With Roots

The Pipe Relining Process

The pipe repair process can be broken up into four steps that allow a plumber pipe relining specialist to diagnose the cause of a blockage and conduct the best repair to maximise the longevity of the new lining.

  1. Inspection:

The first step of trenchless pipe relining is to inspect the pipe to better determine the cause of a blockage and assess the damage. A piperelining plumber will use a CCTV drain camera to get a clear image of the pipe and check for any other damage, corners, or splits in the pipe that they will need to consider when running the pipe lining into the pipe.

  2. Clearing:

For the pipe linings to correctly bond and form an effective drain repair the pipe or drain needs to be clear of all debris. A plumbing drain repair plumber will either use a water jetter or an electric eel to break up any blockages and clear the pipe out. Once the plumber has removed any debris they will re-inspect the pipe to ensure its clear.

  3. Pipe Relining:

Once the pipe is clear the plumber will prep the lining and put it into a compressor that blows the lining through the pipe this pushes the lining up against the walls of the pipe to bond and create the new lining to the pipe. At this point it can either be left to set on its own or if the job needs to be done quickly a plumber can blow hot air through the lining to set it faster.

  4. Re-inspection:

Once the new pipe lining has been set a plumber will reinspect it with a drain camera to ensure the lining has repaired the damage and will allow for efficient flow.

The team at GRH Plumbing Group uses this process to ensure every pipe relining job our team do lasts the test of time whether it's a sewer pipe lining or relining drains for a stormwater system our team have a solution for you.

Drain Camera Inspection

Plumbing and Drainage Inspections

Blocked or blocking drains can go largely undiscovered for months and it isn't until the next big rain that you realise that your drains are blocked as water pools around a once-flowing drain flooding parts of your property. When you are buying a home on top of having a building inspection it is also a good idea to have the plumbing inspected by a plumber with a drain camera as this will let you ensure that everything underground is up to standard and in good condition as if the pipes are riddled with blockages this could cost you thousands down the line when the rain starts. A plumbing and drainage inspection is a crucial part of ensuring your home is storm season ready as it means you can get on top of blockages and damage before storm season when plumbers are quieter letting them come at a time that suits you, not one that suits them.
